I might even consider it myself!Īssume my PC has a full TB3 i/o but increasingly anxious about the security of my music files currently all within the PC itself on a Samsung SSD with Optane acceleration I want to take my music data and software out of the computer completely onto a Thunderbolt 3 HDD external drive enclosure operating RAID 1. I,d welcome comments on a possible deployment of the new option card for serious home studio enthusiasts.
This is because I suspect that the benefits of the upgrade may only be detectable to those using multiple chained Apollo rack units (each with their own TB3 option card), TB3 monitors or storage devices. I am making the following assumptions before purchase, which if any turn out to be incorrect will lead to it's speedy return.ġ- I connect it to the PC having had to purchase an expensive 40Gb/s TB3 cable which won't be supplied (watch out for so-called TB3 cables that are cheaper but limited to 20Gb/s that would make the upgrade pointless!).Ģ- I can re-deploy my Apple TB2 to USC-C adapter to connect my single Apollo 8 duo to my UAD-2 Satellite via TB2 thus not requiring the purchase of 2 option cards.ģ- While I can see no reason why the internal performance of either the Apollo 8 duo or the satellite should be improved, I assume their performance is not adversely affected in any way.Ĥ- That the effective doubling of the data transfer rate between the UA outboard system and the PC/DAW will result in a tangible improvement in performance with regard to I/O latency, buffering and real-time monitoring.
I have been checking out availability this morning and now await an email back from Scan with the all-important price information. Learn more about award-winning Apollo audio interfaces at: Apollo | Thunderbolt & USB Audio Interfaces | Universal Audio.
